The Fishing Trip of a Lifetime: Brian SnowdenArticle courtesy of Recycled Fish
In the 2010 Recycled Fish 24 Hour Fish-A-Thon presented by BoatUS ANGLER, we gave away two epic “Trips of a Lifetime.” One was to Spring Bay Resort, the other to fish with a PAA Pro Angler like Matt Reed, John Crews or Brian Snowden.
Team KayakJak – Marty Hughes and his two sons – won the fishing portion of the contest fishing at Rock Creek in Nebraska, out of kayaks.
They’ve recently returned from the fishing trip of a lifetime, shared this video, and a great story.
Recycled Fish Fishing Trip with Brian Snowden PRICELESS!
Hope that you enjoy the video of our trip with Elite Bass Pro Brian Snowden of Table Rock Lake in Missouri. We won this trip through the 24 hour Fish-A-Thon with Recycled Fish last fall. Raising awareness about our resources is a must endeavor if we are to leave our waters in great condition for our next generation. My two boys learned a great deal from this project and trip.
First…Brian Snowden is just an AWESOME fellow! He treated our kids like GOLD! Watching him share Skittles with CJ was PRICELESS!
Our trip started from Benkelman, Nebraska on Tuesday and we drove to Salina that day. At Salina the boys enjoyed the afternoon at Kenwood Cove Water Park. Well…..so did Diane and I. I didn’t feel a bit intimidated standing in line with all those kids getting ready to get on the water slides.
Then we stayed in Augusta and drove to Branson the next morning. We stayed at the Windmill Inn where Paul the General Manager treated us like royalty! We had a pool, great room, and right next the world’s largest Chicken! CJ got a kick out of that as at first he thought it was a live chicken.
We met Brian the next morning and he was already set up! He was washing crawlers off as we arrived. We were on the lake before the sun came up! He took us to a cove and the water was incredible. The fish did cause a little commotion but no takers so he took us to some submerged timber and put the boys on some BIG GILLS and Spotted Bass. Brian baited the hooks and showed us how to use a drop shot rig effectively. He had some pretty neat tricks and the boys caught on right away landing numerous Bluegill and Spotted Bass. He took to the time to explain many things to the boys. We moved a couple times to different spots looking for some more Bass. A storm moved in and we got off the water for a few minutes and Brian took us out for one more spin. We had an incredible time with Brian Snowden.
Then after helping Brian get his gear stowed and ours as well we parted and Brian recommended I take the boys to the hatchery which I obliged. The boys loved it! There were trout everywhere in the crystal clear water below the dam as well and around a hundred fly fishermen! The trout were huge!
We then headed back to the hotel, did some shopping with Mom and ate some pizza and played a round of minature golf. Branson is a busy town but has some great fishing!
We headed to Lincoln for the Kayakapalooza II and then home that night. 1700 miles! But well worth it! If you ever make it to Branson you might look Brian Snowden up. If he’s not out fishing the BASS Elite Tour or a PAA Tour Event, maybe you’d be able to take a trip with him. He’s pretty cool and knows how to catch those BIG Bass!
Thanks to Recycled Fish for organizing this trip for our family. We appreciate so much what the organization does. If you get a chance you might take part or support the 24 hour Fish-a-Thon! Thanks again!
