KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine, June 18, 2013 -- Capt. Benjamin Graffius and his uncle Jonathan Graffius, opened their first TowBoatUS location in Portland last summer. Now, just in time for the boating season, the native Mainers opened a second location in Kennebunkport and have also purchased a third location, TowBoatUS Sebago Lake. The Graffius’ three locations are part of a nationwide 24/7 non-emergency on water assistance service, TowBoatUS, that will provide tows back to a launch ramp or marina or dock, including battery jump-starting, fuel drop off and ungrounding services.
Much like an auto club for boaters, TowBoatUS offers on water towing plans for saltwater boaters and anglers for just $149 a year and $67 for a freshwater plan. Each include 24/7 on water assistance as well as BoatUS or BoatUS Angler membership.
Six-pack charter fishing and delivery captains have a commercial towing plan available for $281.
Stationed at TowBoatUS Kennebunkport is a 22-foot Aquasport. The boat is painted a distinctive red with white “TowBoatUS” lettering on the hull, and is fully rigged for towing and salvage, with powerful pumps, battery jump packs, dive gear and extra fuel. Boaters can reach TowBoatUS Kennebunkport 24 hours a day at 207-200-8691, through the BoatUS toll-free dispatch service at 800-391-4869, via smartphone with the free BoatUS Towing App, or by hailing on VHF channel 16. Benjamin, a graduate of Mt. Desert Island High School and Maine Maritime Academy, currently holds a USCG Unlimited Masters License, and is a Chief Mate aboard an oil-drilling vessel for Seadrill Americas in the Gulf of Mexico. Uncle Jonathan grew up boating in the Sebago Lake region and on Cape Cod and teaches art at the Poland Community School.
“Kennebunk is one of the most beautiful towns in Maine, and Sebago Lake provides wonderful inland boating experiences,” said Jonathan. “While each may offer a different a kind of boating, boaters in both waterways have similar issues - dead batteries, fouled running gear, fuel issues, or running aground,” said Jonathan. “We also believe our company can enjoy better economies of scale with the new locations. We’re pretty excited to help more boaters get back home any time they need,” he added.
The Graffius’ service area extends south of Small Point, Phippsburg to north of Cape Neddick, including the communities of Harpswell, Brunswick, Free port, Yarmouth, Cumberland, Falmouth, Portland, South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Scarborough, Old Orchard Beach, Saco, Biddeford, Cape Porpoise, Kennebunkport, Wells and Ogunquit. Other nearby TowBoatUS locations can be found in Castine, Boothbay, Newburyport and Portsmouth, NH.
BoatUS Towing Services, which include the TowBoatUS and Vessel Assist boat towing fleets, offer over 300 locations with over 600 towboats – the most in North America. For more information, go to www.BoatUS.com/towing
