LAKE WALLENPAUPACK, Pa., April 14, 2011 -- TowBoatUS Lake Wallenpaupack, which gives boaters and anglers a reliable way to call for assistance 24/7 when their boats break down on the water, has opened. The new business is owned by Capt. Kevin Trevor, who is also owner of the growing boat repair, sales and retail marine business, New Wave in Recreation, which recently expanded operations at their Finn Swamp Road location in Lakeville, PA. Trevor’s stepfather, Capt. Charlie Dunn, is a also part-time captain for the new towing company.
Capt. Trevor has a 24-foot response boat centrally located at Light House Harbor Marina on Wallenpaupack just east of Kipp Island. To see the location on a map, go to www.BoatUS.com/Wallenpaupack. Able to reach boaters on the lake quickly, the vessel is fully rigged for marine towing and salvage work and ready to go at a moment’s notice, including extra fuel, engine fluids, pump, and battery "jump pack" to handle dead batteries. It can be identified by its distinctive red hull, white bow stripes and "TowBoatUS" lettering along its sides.
Said Kevin, “We get a lot of folks here for the weekend, and sometimes they’ll run their battery down or forget how much fuel they left in the tank. We’re just one call away. We want to be the convenient solution to their problem. It’s very affordable peace of mind.”
Much like an auto club for boaters, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) offers an “Unlimited” on-the-water towing service plan for freshwaters that costs just $34 a year, plus an additional $24 for BoatUS membership ($58 total annually). Without a towing plan, boaters face costs that nationally average about $600 per incident – paid out of pocket.
Both Trevor and Dunn are USCG-licensed captains. Kevin grew up on Lake Wallenpaupack and began working at a local marina in high school. Just 21 years old, he is also a graduate of the Marine Mechanic Institute in Florida. In addition to providing routine on-the-water assistance to boaters, Kevin hopes to volunteer his services to local authorities. While the company is not an official rescue service, it offers one of the few vessels available to support the local fire department.

The company is part of the country's largest boat towing program, BoatUS Towing Services, with over 600 towboats servicing hundreds of locations and waterways coast to coast. The towing program is just one service offered by BoatUS - Boat Owners Association of The United States - the nation's leading advocate for recreational boaters providing its half-million members with government representation, consumer programs and money-saving services.
