LAKE TAHOE, Calif. April 11, 2011 – Capt. Geoff Burrows, owner of a local marine contracting business, High Sierra Marine, has branched out and recently purchased Vessel Assist Lake Tahoe, California. The company gives boaters and anglers a reliable way to call for assistance when their boats break down on the water, run out of gas, or run aground.

A USCG-licensed captain, Burrows first came to Lake Tahoe in 1990 and started working for High Sierra Marine in 1995 which provides mooring buoy service as well as towing and salvage services on Tahoe and area lakes. Eventually, he worked his way up and purchased the company in 2001.
Vessel Assist Lake Tahoe is located at The Tahoe Keys Marina and Tahoe City Marina. To see these locations on a map, go to A 22-foot and a 26-foot response vessel are stationed at the ports. Both boats are fully rigged for marine towing and salvage work and ready to go at a moment’s notice, including extra fuel, engine fluids, pumps, dive gear and battery "jump packs" to handle dead batteries. They can be identified by their distinctive red hulls, white bow stripes and "Vessel Assist" lettering along their sides.
Much like an auto club for boaters, Boat Owners Association of The United States (BoatUS) offers an “Unlimited” on-the-water towing service plan for freshwaters that costs just $34 a year, plus an additional $24 for BoatUS or BoatUS Angler membership ($58 total annually). Without a towing plan, boaters face costs that nationally average about $600 per incident.
Recreational boaters, sailors, anglers, as well as commercial vessels can call Vessel Assist Lake Tahoe 24-hours a day at 530-544-4522, through the BoatUS toll-free Dispatch Service at 800-391-4869, or by hailing on VHF radio channels 16 or 18.
The ports are part of the country's largest boat towing program, BoatUS Towing Services, with over 600 towboats servicing hundreds of ports and waterways coast to coast. The towing program is just one service offered by BoatUS - Boat Owners Association of The United States - the nation's leading advocate for recreational boaters providing its half-million members with government representation, consumer programs and money-saving services.
