ALEXANDRIA, Va., August 10, 2010 – Award-winning features writer Ann Dermody has been appointed managing editor of BoatUS Magazine. Dermody replaces Elaine Dickinson, who has retired after 26 years with BoatUS.

Before coming to BoatUS two years ago, Dermody was a features writer, editor, and columnist for several major British and Irish newspapers and magazines, such as the Sunday Tribune, The Irish Independent, The Evening Herald, Ireland on Sunday, Woman's Way, Tatler, and the UK Independent. Dermody also holds an honors post-graduate degree in journalism, public relations, and applied communications.

Most recently, she’s been a contributing editor and features writer for BoatUS Magazine and BoatUS Trailering magazine, where she took first place honors from Boating Writers International 2010 Annual Writer’s Contest for her inspirational feature about the first African-American yacht club in America, a poignant story that also won an APEX Award.

An avid boater, Dermody and her late husband completed a two-year 10,000-mile voyage aboard Desperado, their 48-foot Chris-Craft, from San Francisco through the Panama Canal and Central America, and up the East Coast to their home in Alexandria, Virginia.

“We wish Elaine the best as she and her husband set off cruising, and we welcome Ann in her newest role at our flagship publication,” said BoatUS Magazine Publisher Nancy Michelman. “Our goal is to continue to grow and expand BoatUS Magazine, and we’re pleased to add Ann and her considerable talents to our leadership team. In her role as a freelance journalist, she’s written all manner of breaking news stories and powerful features for us, and we’re excited she’s coming aboard. Our magazine is the American boater’s trusted source for news and information; with Ann’s journalism credentials and extensive boating experience, our magazine’s voice and reach gets even stronger.”
