ALEXANDRIA, VA, October 2, 2008 – A new online Professional Captains Locator service from BoatU.S. aims to connect boat owners seeking on-the-water transportation services with U.S. Coast Guard licensed delivery captains.

“Whether it’s a ‘snowbird’ heading south down the Intracoastal Waterway for the winter, a boat owner needing help moving a vessel to a hurricane hole or trying to get a new boat delivered to the home dock, our free Captains Locator service can help boaters find reliable delivery services,” said BoatUS Supervisor of Special Programs Kristin Loyd.

The service allows boaters to search by region, and includes credentials such as USCG licenses held as well as any special endorsements, knowledge of familiar waters or types of boats, locations served, full contact information and the types of delivery services offered, including instruction and hurricane hole deliveries.

“With this year’s hurricane activity as well as more insurance policies offering to help pay for costs related to moving a boat out of harm’s way, our Captains Locator service can get you the help you need,” said Loyd. “With homes and families to worry about, some boat owners are simply stretched too thin, or may live too far away to do much themselves,” she noted.

“Also using a Captain to move a boat to a warm weather climate for the winter can free up an owner’s time and make the winter migration easier,” she added.
