ALEXANDRIA, Va., June 24, 2015 – Mark Corke, an accomplished boating writer known for his technical acumen and impressive tenure in marine magazine publishing, has been appointed Associate Editor of BoatUS Magazine. Corke was most recently a freelance writer and photographer for a wide net of top boating magazines including Soundings, Sail, Cruising World, Southern Boating, Spinsheet, and Lakeland Boating. He’s also an active SAMS-accredited marine surveyor in the New England region.

“Mark’s coming aboard helps us increase our focus on practical, hands-on DIY content that our active boat-owning readers tell us they want,” said BoatUS Magazine Editorial Director Bernadette Bernon. “His terrific technical writing, blogging, and video skills combine with an authoritative voice that connects with our readers. Mark is the real deal.”

Prior to joining BoatUS, Corke was Senior Editor of Sail magazine, where he also conceptualized and put into production a new publication targeting the practical hands-on boat owner, Boatworks. He’s also a highly skilled wooden boat expert who has built five power and sailboats in which he’s cruised extensively – his early years writing technical content for Good Woodworking Magazine have clearly paid off. Corke is also the former projects editor at Sailing Today Magazine, and has worked on home-building magazines and television shows for the BBC.

A Guinness World Record holder for the fastest “there and back” crossing of the English Channel in a kayak, Corke also holds a Royal Yachting Association Yachtmaster Ocean certificate. He’s an experienced ocean-racing skipper and navigator – and has also been selected as a frequent NMMA Innovation Award Judge. He and his wife Rita own a 32-foot Grand Banks trawler, which Mark is rebuilding, and chronicling in a DIY series online.
